Veterans Day in MinnesotaPublished by hmn_admin on Wed, 2015-11-11 10:26
On Veteran's Day, it is appropriate to feature a place that honors those who have served our country . One of our oldest historic sites with a military connection is Fort Snelling. Originally called Fort Saint Anthony, the fortress outpost was built at the confluence off the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, beginning in 1820 on land that had been purchased by Zebulon Pike in 1805. The Fort is now a very popular site operated by the Minnesota Historical Society. The site abuts Fort Snelling State Park and is one of the most frequently visited attractions in Minnesota. The Ft. Snelling National Cemetary is nearby and is the final resting place for thousands of men and women who have served their country.
